An Internship abroad gives you the opportunity to experience a different culture and learn how to work internationally. It also gives you the opportunity to build an international network and improve your CV. 

An Internship is compulsory in all of our programmes but it is your decision where to go. Previous students from Business Academy SouthWest have been doing internships all over the world.

Please remember that your stay abroad will have varying costs depending on your travel and accommodation costs.

You can apply for an Erasmus+ grant within Europe or the Business Academy SouthWest grant outside Europe.

You have a lot of opportunities if you want to study abroad. Living and working in a different culture will give you both memories and the experience of a lifetime. Business Academy SouthWest has agreements with a wide range of educational institution both inside and outside of Europe.

Most of our students at Business Academy SouthWest have the opportunity to go abroad for one semester. We offer three different ways to go abroad: Through the Erasmus+ programme, at our partner schools and as a freemover.

Erasmus+ universities in Europe

Most of our partner universities in Europe are a part of the Erasmus+ programme. This means that when you apply for a semester at an Erasmus+ school you will automatically apply for both exchange and the Erasmus+ scholarship. The scholarship depends on the costs in the country where you are applying for exchange but is approximately € 200 per month. You will not pay a tuition fee if you are an exchange student at one of our partner universities.

Partner Schools – outside of Europe

You may also choose an exchange stay at one of our partner universities outside of Europe.

FREE MOVER

As a Free Mover you can study at a university with which Business Academy SouthWest does not have an exchange agreement. As a rule you will have to pay your tuition yourself as a Free Mover, but you can apply for grants and funds.

European Policy Statement 2021-2027

Internationalization and international cooperation are central parts of Business Academy South West´s strategy and it has continuously become a natural part of the academy’s development plans.

The current strategy – Strategy 2025 – is based on an understanding that BASW is part of a global reality, and therefore the strategy works with interventions that strengthen the Academy’s position in this reality.

The focal point of the strategy is the UN’s World Goals, which work more concretely on a number of the sub-objectives, such as “Quality education”, “Partnerships for action”, “Sustainable energy”, “Gender equality” and “Responsible consumption and production”. These are all objectives that must be developed in close cooperation with industry and with partners in Denmark and abroad.

More specifically, the strategy states that ” BASW must ensure that all students and staff can acquire international competences”. This is done through participation in mobility cooperation with partner schools and through participation in international projects.

The strategy also more specifically outlines that we will work with the development of digital competences, creativity and innovation, based on the demands that business places on students’ competences now and in the future. These are areas high on the agenda of many partner schools, and it would therefore be natural to work on these tasks in close cooperation with partners abroad.

Business Academy South West has participated in European cooperation for many years, and it has continuously helped to develop and inspire students and staff at the academy, and it has also resulted in participation in development projects that have benefited internally and externally.

We want to continue this work in the coming period. We want to increase cooperation with partner schools in relation to the academy’s strategic goals, and we want to increase both the quality and number of exchanges of both students and staff. We will continuously promote opportunities for international cooperation and mobility for students and staff, and in this context we will focus on enabling everyone to participate in the cooperation with partner schools.

The Academy’s knowledge strategy stipulates that we will promote research and development projects involving international partners, and in the next program period we will implement and participate in projects where several of our partner schools will take part. The projects will be based on the academy’s strategic focus points, such as sustainability, innovation and creativity.

Business Academy South West wishes to continue working within KA1 and KA2 during the next programme period.

We have worked with student and teacher mobility for many years and we want to continue this work. We do this to ensure that teachers and students at BASW have the opportunity to acquire international competences, as set out in our Strategy 2025. International competences come naturally through participation in outbound mobility for students and staff, but since only a small part can and will have this opportunity, incoming mobility is even more important in order to achieve this goal.

BASW receives about 30-35 students annually from partner schools, and this helps to ensure the international environment at the academy and thus give Danish students international skills. Teachers and staff also get an international dimension by the fact that the academy has international students studying at the academy and ingoing visits from partner schools.

The mobility of staff and students is handled by the International Office, who deals with the daily contact with our incoming students and also promotes and guides about the possibilities of going abroad on study and internships.

During their education, all students receive the same information about the possibilities of a stay abroad, and the International Office has weekly opening hours in “Student Services” where all students are encouraged to come and get guidance. In addition, the International Office has an area on the academy’s intranet, where staff are regularly informed about opportunities to go abroad.

BASW also wishes to continue and intensify cooperation with partner schools on development projects and development of quality education. The responsibility for these areas lies in the department “Knowledge and Business”, which is responsible for developing and implementing development projects with the participation of teachers from relevant educational programmes.

The projects initiated in the next programme period will be based on the BASW Strategy 2025, and should therefore be based on the UN’s world goals and the 21st century skills such as digitalization, creativity and innovation. The projects must also have a clear aim of adding new knowledge to the academy’s education and teachers and to the local business community.

For many years, we have had concrete objectives for both mobility and for the participation of teachers in the project work. These objectives are part of the Academy’s framework contract with the Danish Ministry of Education.

Specifically, there has been a goal that 25% of our teachers should have a stay abroad within a year. The goal has been met in recent years, and in 2019 33% of our teachers were on a stay abroad – either at a partner school, an internship in a company or participated in a conference or similar.

Participation in the Erasmus+ programme is a very important part of continuing to achieve this objective, but we do not expect the figure to be higher, as it must be consistent with the economic and practical framework.

For incoming students, the goal is for BASW to receive approx. 25 students per year from partner schools, and this goal is met every year, as many students from partner schools are interested in coming to BASW. As a result of the Danish rules that there has to be a balance of mobility, the aim of the academy is that 25 students from BASW will be sent out on a study abroad to our partner schools. This objective has not been met in recent years, as we only have been able to send out approx. 10 students, and therefore the aim in the next program period is to get more students to study abroad.

Initiatives will therefore be taken as early as 2020 to increase the number of students taking a study abroad, and in this context we will look at whether the current partner schools are attractive enough for our students or whether we should possibly find partner schools that better meet the wishes of students.

The number of internships abroad has remained constant in recent years at approx. 60 per year. This has been a satisfactory level, and it corresponds to approx. 15% of students going abroad for an internship. However, the numbers are expected to fall in the coming years as we have taken some initiatives to work for more of our foreign students to stay in Denmark in connection with their compulsory internships, and this will naturally cause the number of internships abroad to decrease.

During the past project period, BASW has regularly participated in 2-3 Erasmus+ projects and these projects are a valuable complement to the Academy’s other internal and external projects. BASW has a target of at least 50% of teachers involved in research and development projects, and in 2019 this figure was 59%. We expect to maintain the current level of project number and number of project participants, as we, as a smaller organization, have to adapt our activities to our resources.
